42TEK, Silicon Valley
42TEK provides consulting for entrepreneurs, investors, and growing companies in electronic payments, data security, health care systems and clean technology. Principal David Snyder uses his engineering and business management skills and experience to assist organizations to develop and introduce products and services and expand globally.
David Snyder left his job at Apple, Inc. in October 2008 and decided that he wanted to work as an entrepreneur and independent contractor. Mr. Snyder had at the time extensive experience in the electronic payments (domestic and international), environmental, and health care industries. In December 2008, Mr. Snyder began working with the Small Business Development Center at advising meetings with Certified Business Advisor Anne Wenzel. He focused his business planning efforts on launching a business where he would consult for other businesses out of his home office or on the client site as an independent contractor.
In his sessions with Business Advisor Anne Wenzel, Mr. Snyder worked to define his services offerings, develop sample contracts and establish contract pricing and pay agreements. He networked extensively, with new and former colleagues, participated actively in industry associations, and followed up on leads, leveraging his contacts and business professional experience to land his first contract and consulting revenue in February 2009. He performed a competitive analysis, which enabled him to see how other consultants packaged their services. Mr. Snyder also during this time chose a company name, 42TEK, and launched a web site (www.42tek.com).
Mr. Snyder’s concerted business development efforts, combined with his industry experience and expertise, led him to successfully contract with two additional clients in the second quarter of 2009.
David Snyder successfully launched 42TEK in February 2009. Through consulting contracts, 42TEK’s revenue increased fifteen fold from the first quarter of 2009 to the 2nd quarter of 2009.
Mr. Snyder is currently consulting on site for Kaiser Permanente and he continues to develop business leads for future consulting contracts and business revenue. His LinkedIn profile continues to attract inquiries from major Silicon Valley companies, and a technical service company has expressed interest in using Mr. Snyder’s industry expertise and consulting services to promote their data security approach as an industry best practice (this project development is still underway).
"Meeting with you, and being able to talk to someone who had an independent consultancy, who also has had to deal with marketing, contracts and making sales, really helped me develop the framework for my business. There was a business planning discipline that you encouraged me to follow, and I found your role as a sounding board, as I bounced ideas off of you, was invaluable."
